1981-1982 Away European Cup Player Shirt
The yellow away pinstriped shirt was first released in May 1981, right after Liverpool won the European Cup Final in Paris. It was used both in season 1981-1982 domestic and European competitions. For the latter matches, the shirts have deliberate omission of the text of Umbro beneath the rhombus logo on the chest.
First of all, the story must start from this  sexy Souness picture above holding the big-ears of the European Cup.
The captioned descriptions cite that Souness is picking the European Cup of 1981 (third arrival of the Cup) and wearing the "new change strip". This gave a start for the use of this pinstriped away kit in season 1981-1982.
Featured match action photo from season 1981-1982 European Cup campaign, 2nd round 1st leg away match against AZ67 Alkmaar played on 21 October 1981.
We can see David Johnson wearing the pinstriped away shirt with only the Umbro motif but no text beneath it.

Another page of the Liverpool's 1981-1982 European Cup 3rd Round 1st Leg home match programme against CSKA Sofia, which has coverage on the away match encounter with AZ67 Alkmaar. It shows clearly Graeme Souness and Sammy Lee wearing the pinstriped away shirt without Umbro text beneath the logo.
Apart from the aforesaid AZ67 Alkmaar away match, Liverpool also wore the same yellow away pinstriped shirt without Umbro text in the 1981-1982 European Cup 3rd Round 2nd Leg against CSKA Sofia on 17 March 1982.

Close up of the shirt shows there's no Umbro text embroidered under the Umbro rhombus logo.
Liverpool 1981-1982 Away Euroepan Cup Player Shirt - no Umbro text beneath the rhombus logo was only worn twice in history, namely, against AZ67 Alkmaar on 21 October 1981 and against CSKA Sofia on 17 March 1982.
Further close up of the Umbro motif showing absence of the Umbro text below. This situation is very different from the home shirts used in the 1981-1982 European Cup campaign, where the fabric originally has Umbro word embroidered, but the word was later on machine stitched out for removal.
As usual, all UMBRO era genuine player shirts come with size tag printed with WORDS instead of NUMERICS.
Number 12 on the back is machine stitched on cloth material as usual.
As this special European Cup campaign away shirt was worn twice in history, the number 12 player shirt can either be tallied to Ronnie Whelan in the AZ67 Alkmaar encounter.
Or it can be a Craig Johnston's shirt in the CSKA Sofia encounter.
