The Irish midfielder Ronnie Whelan was signed by Liverpool on 19 September 1979 and had his Liverpool debut on 3 April 1981. Ronnie served Liverpool for 15 years and left the club upon contract expiry on 1 June 1994.
Liverpool F.C. granted Ronnie Whelan a Testimonial Match in recognition of his loyal services rendered on 9 August 1993. The Testimonial Match was played between Liverpool and Newcastle United.
